Dana Evan Kaplan is one of the most popular and richest Rabbi who was born on October 29, 1960 in Manhattan, New York, United States. Dana Evan Kaplan (born October 29th in 1960) was a Reform Rabbi renowned as a writer on Reform Judaism as well as American Judaism. Kaplan has advocated for an theologically consistent approach to Reform Judaism rather than encouraging an open-minded approach to faith with no limits.
The year 2013 was the time that Kaplan was the author of The New Reform Judaism and the New Reform Judaism: The Challenges and Reflections, published by the Jewish Publication Society, with introduction by Rabbi Eric H. Yoffie, and an afterword written of Rabbi Rick Jacobs. In the book, Kaplan describes how the American Reform movement faces enormous problems in the future. Kaplan argues that to be able to continue to grow and thrive the movement must to come up with convincing arguments to maintain its position as a Jewish group as an ethnic-religious community in an age where boundaries and boundaries across all sorts are diminishing and disappearing altogether. According to him that this requires the creation of an alternative Judaism which focuses too much on loyalty to communities but on the development of new practices to involve the individual in search of an inner significance.
The book he wrote in 2009, Contemporary American Judaism: Change and Renewal, was mixed between praise for his new methods of Jewish religion seriously and criticised for what many consider an overly insensitive approach to seemingly irrelevant issues. Kaplan asserted that the changing of cultural trends had transformed the nature of non-Orthodox Jewish Judaism in America. The American Jewish religious denominations were no longer as important as they had been in the thirty or thirty-five year period following World War II and were increasingly irrelevant in a time of post-denominationalism. Kaplan credits with the “re-engagement with spirituality” as driving the development of new ways of Jewish living, as discussed in the final three chapters in Kaplan’s book “Radical Responses to the Suburban Experience,” “The Popularization of Jewish Mystical Outreach,” and “Herculean Efforts at Synagogue Renewal.” The Rabbi Lance Sussman, writing in The Jewish Review of Books and praising the last three chaptersas follows “Here, Kaplan is clearly breaking new ground and writing a new narrative for twenty-first century American Judaism.”

Kaplan asserted that the notion of autonomy for religious beliefs, though beautiful in its own way but had led to an unproductive cycle of disengagement and apathy within Reform temples across all over the United States. The book was part of an open discussion in Judaism The Quartly Journal of Jewish Life and Thought and responses from the people from the different American Jewish denominations.
