Dan Guerrero (born November 10 1951) is a former American athletic director at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). He has also been chair of the Selection Committee for the NCAA Men’s Division I Basketball Tournament. Guerrero is also acknowledged for rejuvenating an athletics department which was struggling at the time of his appointment However, he has been accused of a lot of his selections specifically for basketball and football.
Guerrero who was born in Wilmington, CA, was admitted into the UCLA Baseball Hall of Fame in 1996. Guerrero has been married for a while to ex-wife of Anne Marie Aniello and they have two daughters who are grown: Jenna and Katie.
In Guerrero’s first year at UCLA (2002–03), UCLA won four NCAA titles (men’s soccer, women’s gymnastics, women’s water polo and women’s softball). The Bruins placed third in men’s golf, tied for third in men’s tennis and tied for fifth in women’s golf and women’s tennis. UCLA also earned six conference titles.
On April 25, 2002, Guerrero was named UCLA’s Director of Athletics. In the last nine years, UCLA has finished second three times (2005–06, 2006–07, and 2007–08), third twice (2003–04 and 2004–05), fourth (2009–10), sixth (2002–03), 11th (2010–11), and 16th (2008–09) in the race for the Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup.
Guerrero was then employed as a coach at UC Irvine, where he was Director of Athletics for a period of 10 seasons (1992-2002). On June 2, 2002 when he was in his current position working at UC Irvine, he was named the 2001-02 Division II-AA/I-AAA Northwest Region Athletic Director of NACDA Award Winner. In the time of Guerrero’s presidency, UCI experienced unprecedented activity in the field of the development of athletic facilities. In the final period of five, Guerrero was involved in $35 million worth of newly built and renovated structures. The projects included a recently updated soccer and track complex as well as a brand new 64-meter competition swimming pool newly constructed baseball stadium, as well as the Anteater Recreation Center, one of the top recreation centers across the nation.

Guerrero obtained the bachelor’s degree in History from UCLA in 1974, on an athletic scholarship for second baseman. He was awarded a master’s level diploma in public Administration in 1982 at California State University, Dominguez Hills.
His first stint as athletic director began during his time at California State University, Dominguez Hills in which he was athletic director over five seasons (1988-92).
In addition to his most recent accolades, Guerrero has earned numerous honors in the past nine years. In June 2007, he was named the NACDA Division I West Region Athletic Director of the Year. His other honors include the UCLA Latino Alumnus of the Year (October 2002); Cal State Dominguez Hills’ Alumnus of the Year (March 2003); and “Father of the Year” by the Father’s Day Council of the American Diabetes Association (June 2003). On September 10, 2002, the Los Angeles City Council honored him with Dan Guerrero Day. He also became the first athlete in any sport at Banning (Wilmington, CA) High School to have his jersey (#8 in baseball) retired (April 2003).
