Daniel Leslie Grunfeld (Hebrew: Dn Gvnpld, born on February 7 1984) is an American professional basketball player from Romania, who was last seen in the small forward position with Bnei Herzliya in the Israeli Basketball Premier League. He was briefly a player in the league of Hapoel Holon, but left the team because of its financial issues, and then signed a contract for two years for a two-year contract with Hapoel Jerusalem starting at the beginning of November.
Grunfeld participated at his first Maccabiah Games for the United States in 2009. He was the one to lead his team U.S. to a gold medal, scoring 24 points and 12 rebounds during one of the games that went to overtime, against Israel.
He played for Bnei Hasharon in the Israeli Basketball Super League in 2010–11, averaging 14.1 points per game on 56.9% shooting. In 2010, he made aliyah, becoming an Israeli citizen. In July 2011, he signed a two-year deal with Israel’s Hapoel Holon. Due to the team’s financial problems at the beginning of the 2011 season, he was released and signed a two-year contract with Hapoel Jerusalem. He is one of a number of American Jews who played in Israel, including Jon Scheyer, Sylven Landesberg, and David Blu.
After being undrafted from Stanford during the year 2006 played in his initial two seasons as a professional with EWE Baskets Oldenburg in the German Basketball Bundesliga, then with Aguas de Valencia Gandia , a team in the Spanish LEB Oro League. Then, in September of 2008 the dream of his childhood was realized after his dream came true when the New York Knicks signed him to their team on unspecified conditions. On the 23rd of October the 23rd of October, Grunfeld had to be released by his team.

Grunfeld was raised living in Franklin Lakes, New Jersey where his dad was general manager of the New York Knicks. Because of this, Grunfeld was a fervent Knicks supporter, but was an average player on his middle school team in the latter part of the 1990s. As his father became an Milwaukee Bucks GM, Grunfeld relocated to Wisconsin. There the player developed his skills and increased his height.
Grunfeld continued to play for Stanford University, where he enjoyed a successful college experience. As a player for the Stanford Cardinal and leading the team in scoring (17.0 ppg; 5th for the Pac-10) In February of 2005, he tore the anterior cruciate ligament of his knee (ACL) which forced him to miss the final nine games of the team. He spent the time in order to “observe what certain people do to be successful,” and to improve his basketball knowledge. In 2004-05, as a junior He was named to the as a first- team player All Pacific-10 Conference, to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) District 14 first team, on the 2004 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American University Division Second Team. He was also named as well as district-8 ESPN The Magazine University Division Academic First Team, as well as for the Pac-10 Academic first team. As a senior in 2005-06, he made the First-Team Pac-10 All-Academic awardee, as well as the first-team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American selection.
In January 2009 he received Romanian citizenship in order to be eligible for playing for the Romania national basketball team.
