Damir Zakhartdinov (Uzbek: Damir Zakhartdinov born on January 2nd 1976 at Tashkent) is an ex-amateur Uzbek freestyle wrestler who wrestled in the male lightweight division. As one of the nation’s best wrestlers of the past decade, Zakhartdinov has yielded a remarkable record of six career medals which include a bronze medal at the 58-kg category at the 1999 World Wrestling Championships in Ankara, Turkey, and took advantage of the opportunity to represent Uzbekistan in three different editions of the Olympic Games (1996, 2000 as well as 2004). While serving as an army soldier within CSKA Tashkent, Zakhartdinov trained throughout his athletic career as a member of the wrestling team, under the guidance of its head Coach Mamur Ruziev.
In the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Zakhartdinov qualified for his third Uzbek team, at the age of 28 in the 60 kg men’s class. With a weight of two kilograms more than his prior Games, Zakhartdinov received a place and was able to claim the ninth position in the category of lightweights at in 2003’s World Wrestling Championships in New York City, New York, United States. The preliminary match began with a stunning 3-2 win against Japan’s Kenji Inoue. However, he was crushed with Austria’s Lubos Cikel with a score of 5-6 as well as South Korean’s Young Ho on incredible technical falls. The finalist in the preliminary tournament and in the ninth place all-time, Zakhartdinov failed to advance into the quarterfinals.
Zakhartdinov was also a participant in two different editions of the Asian Games (2002 and 2006) and was not able to finish on the podium for medals. Following his sporting career came to an end in 2006, Zakhartdinov relocated back to America. United States to work with Rod Gaddy and coach young wrestlers from the Alabama State Wrestling Team in Birmingham, Alabama.

Zakhartdinov made his debut during his debut at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta in which he participated in the bantamweight division for men (57 kilograms). He was successful in the first round and his third match undefeated however, he was defeated by Canada’s Guivi Sissaouri, who won a score of 0-8. He was subsequently defeated by the Iranian Mohammad Talaei in the repechage with a score of 2-4. He then lost against Belarus’ Aleksandr Guzov in the final round, with the strict 3-2 score which dropped him to eighth.
In a bid to make a return to his place on the Olympic arena, Zakhartdinov entered the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney as the top medalist in the featherweight division for men (58 kilograms). Prior to that the athlete won an Olympic bronze medal in the face of the Armenian Martin Berberyan at the 1999 World Wrestling Championships in Ankara, Turkey. In the preliminary match, Zakhartdinov lost his opening match 4-1 against Russia’s Murad Ramazanov and then returned to defeat the Turkish Harun Dogan (3-0) and then pin Moldova’s Octavian Cuciuc with just 30 seconds left. Zakhartdinov was ranked first in the preliminary match by virtue of technical points. He made it to the semifinals, however, he fell short of Ukraine’s Yevhen Buslovych during overtime after an 2-0 win. Zakhartdinov was up against U.S. wrestler Terry Brands in the bronze medal match but he was unable to throw him off the mat. He was unable to reach the podium by one point. He was able to make the record at 3-2. He was just fourth.
