Damien Poisblaud is one of the most popular and richest Choir Director who was born on April 13, 1961 in Vendée, France. Damien Poisblaud (born 13 April 1961 in Maille in Vendee) is a French cantor who specializes in Gregorian Chant. He is Director of the Gregorian choir “Les Chantres du Thoronet”.
Since 1999, he’s spent the last few years studying in the Byzantine Rite following the Greek and Syrian practices of Aleppo. As a member of the group Les Paraphonistes which he founded in 1998, he decided to re-examine his repertoire from the fauxbourdons of churches in both the 18th and 19th century. He wrote down a recording of these fauxbourdons in that of the North of France, a “Solemn Mass of the Dead” which was recognized with an award of Diapason d’or in July 2000.
Since 2008, he has been singing the Sunday Gregorian Mass at the Thoronet Abbey, at the request of Mgr Dominique Rey, bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Fréjus-Toulon.
Since 1996, he’s been singing in the ensemble of Marcel Peres and the Ensemble Organum. Then, he followed the instructions of Marie-Noel Collette at the Ecole practice des hautes etudes and that of Jean-Yves Hameline regarding the anthropology of ritual gesture.
