Philip Dale Steele (born August 17th 1955) is a American soccer coach, and previously a player. He was previously as the coach of head of Campbell University in Buies Creek, North Carolina, a position he was in since resuming the football program of the school in the year 2006. Campbell began playing again in 2008. Steele is the son to Kevin Steele, the current defensive coordinator at Auburn University and former head football coach at Baylor University.

Following East Carolina, Steele was the head athletic director and coach at Northern Nash High School in Nashville, North Carolina for four years (1995-1998). He then moved to Baylor University, where he was the wide receivers’ coach from 1999 to 2002 and Steele’s brother Kevin Steele, was the head coach. Steele later served as an assistant coach for a single season in East Tennessee State University (2003) and for 3 seasons with Elon University (2004-2006).

Steele worked at East Carolina University as its recruitment coordinator for three seasons (1991-1993) before being then promoted to assistant head coach during his final campaign (1994). Steele was a part-time coach in the ECU coaching staff from 1989 to 1994. ECU (1989-1994) and was a coach of the wide receivers as well as helping the Pirates to win the 1994 Peach Bowl and the 1994 Liberty Bowl.

Steele received the B.S. qualification in the field of physical education at South Carolina in 1976 and the M.A. qualification in the field of physical education at Ball State University in 1978.

Steele started his career in coaching as an assistant coach at A.C. Flora High School in Forest Acres, South Carolina. Then he moved up into the college ranks, making stints in Ball State University (graduate assistant/offensive line in 1977) as well as The University of Wisconsin-Madison (assistant offensive line in 1978, offensive ends , and head coach of the junior varsity team during 1979), Tulane University (offensive line in 1980 as well as tight ends and kickers from 1981 onwards, and tight end and the coordinator for recruiting during 1982), Wichita State University (outside linebackers 1984-1986) in addition to Kansas State University (tight ends and offensive special teams in 1987 and wide receivers by 1988). The year 1980 was the time that Steele was instrumental in helping Tulane progress to Hall of Fame Classic, which was his first postseason appearance as coach. Steele also was a coach for St. Charles High School in LaPlace, Louisiana in 1983.

Upon taking the position at Campbell University, Steele said, “It’s a dream come true for my family and me and a tremendous opportunity…As a family, we are so excited that we have been given this opportunity to be a part of a special time in the history of Campbell University with the reinstatement of football after a 56-year absence. We are very thankful to Dr. Wallace, Stan Williamson and the Campbell family for selecting us to come to Buies Creek during such an exciting time in the university’s history.” Steele was fired as the head coach at Campbell on November 5, 2012.
