Huet’s loan and his contract with the Blackhawks expired when the playoffs ended, thus making him a free agent.

On January 13, 2007, Huet was announced as one of the three goalies of the Eastern Conference All-Star Team in the 55th NHL All-Star Game in Dallas. A month later, however, he suffered a left hamstring injury that caused him to miss most of the final two months of the season.
