The month of July was the time that Silvestri was signed on a deal with Serie B club, Ascoli Calcio, following the expiration of his Catania contract. In his first season at Ascoli, Silvestri made 21 appearances in the league, with some appearances during the team’s Coppa Italia season. Silvestri was joined by former Catania teammates Marcello Gazzola Mirco Antenucci as well as Vito Falconieri in Ascoli. Gazzola along with Falconieri are both at Ascoli as co- owners while Antenucci was in loan.

The defender was officially transferred from U.S. Lecce in the summer of 2001. He was able to make the Serie A debut during that season. In his debut Serie A season, the player made fifteen appearances for the team and also took part in the Coppa Italia and friendly games. Silvestri was unable to however help the club avoid being sent to Serie A, but he continued to play in the squad even after their removal. In his second season at Apulian club Apulian team, Silvestri was a starter throughout the Serie B season, and continued to play 35 games with the team in league. His work allowed the club to be promoted back to the top league after only an entire season playing in the lower class. In the return season of the club, Silvesrti was dropped from the starting XI and only made fifteen league games. The following season, Silvestri was far down in the pecking order. He was also plagued by injuries during the initial part in the campaign. He was able to play just two times during the first four weeks of 2004/05 Serie A season. After a poor beginning to the season the fullback was transferred to Sicilian team, Calcio Catania for the second portion in the 2004-05 Serie B season.

Silvestri started his career in the professional game at 20 after being promoted from the youth team of Ternana Calcio in the year 1995. He made a handful of appearances in his initial season, but he remained with the senior team for four full seasons. In the final two seasons at his club Silvestri was a definite player. Following the the 1998-99 season. Silvestri also was an influential part of the Catania first team during the 2005–06 Serie B season, as he helped the club to finish second in the league, and hence, earn promotion to the Italian Serie A. Cristian contributed with an impressive total of 36 league matches, also netting a single goal. Upon Catania’s return to the Italian top flight, Silvestri continued to be an integral figure in the club’s success. He manages 22 Serie A appearances and helped guide the team to a 13th-place finish in the league table. The 2007–08 season proved to be very similar, as the player contributed with 26 appearances, helping the team to avoid relegation yet again with a 17th-place finish in the league. During the 2008–09 Serie A campaign, Silvestri was often used as a left full back, as the right side was covered by Gennaro Sardo and later Alessandro Potenza. Silvestri still managed 23 appearances in the league, and the club wound up 15th in the final table. At the conclusion of the season, talk of a contract renewal was heard, but on June 30, 2009, Silvestri became a free agent at the age of 34. During his time with Catania he was known for being a hard worker and a so-called “wall” in defensive positions.
