Allen has joined WPIX-TV in May of 2010 as the main weather reporter for the weekend WPIX 5 and 10 pm newscasts along with Kaity Tong. Allen also provides coverage the newscasts for Mr. G on weekdays.
On the 11th of January 2007 Allen began working for News 12 Long Island as an extra meteorologist. On June 2, 2007 Allen began working as a weather anchor for WNYW initially as an in-between stint at the station, where he was responsible for weekend forecasts for weather. In the final quarter of 2007, Allen continued his weekend assignment as Fox 5’s Saturday meteorologist following the departure of Tracy Humphrey. In September 2008, Allen was named the weekend meteorologist as well as the primary replacement of Nick Gregory. Fox5 substituted him for meteorologist Shay Ryan but allowed him to freelance when required.

Allen is an alumni of Farmingdale High School. He received his bachelor’s degree in 1979 from Stony Brook University in 1979 and has been the main meteorologist for WCBS since 1981.
Allen was previously employed by WCBS-TV from September 2006 onwards and CBS This Morning and CBS Morning News from 1996 until October 1999.
On April 27, 2011, Allen began his 30th year with WCBS-AM/880. He is now the longest running primary meteorologist on a radio station in the country according to CBS News, the New York Daily News and an interview with Jerry Barmash from the New York Examiner/Fish Bowl NY.
