In the years 2010 and in 2011, Thompson was part of Thompson’s Souths Logan Magpies in the Queensland Cup. In 2012, he signed with the Eastern Suburbs Tigers, giving Thompson the opportunity to play some pre-season training with the National Rugby League team Melbourne Storm. The Storm tried to recruit Thompson but were unable to fit the player into their salary cap. In 2013, he participated in matches for ICONZ Rugby in an Australian Rugby sevens competition. In April 2013, when he was being a part of the Eastern Suburbs Tigers, he signed a contract for two years for Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs.
