Coralie Denise Simmons (born March 1st 1977) is an American water polo athlete, who was awarded her the gold medal during the 2000 Summer Olympics. The year before, she received the Peter J. Cutino Award, which is presented annually to the most outstanding American water polo athlete at the collegiate level. Simmons is currently in her third year as the water polo coach for women for the University of California, Berkeley following nine years being the coach of the year of Sonoma State University. Her birthplace was in Hemet, California.

On June 1, 2001 Simmons was a graduate of UCLA with the degree of environmental and geography studies. She was inducted as a member of the UCLA Athletics Hall of Fame in 2012.

Simmons joined other UCLA Bruins, Natalie Golda (2005), Kelly Rulon (2007), and Courtney Mathewson (2008), as the school’s four woman Peter J. Cutino Award winners, all coached by Adam Krikorian. She was also named as an assistant coach to the USA Water Polo Women’s Senior National Team for the 2009 FINA World Championships.

Between 2001 and 2005, Simmons played for two different water polo teams that were professional that played in Athens, Greece. The teams she played for have won the three Greek Championships and one European Cup. As of 2005 Coralie Simmons began her first year as an assistant coach on the University of Hawaii water polo staff.

When she attended Hemet High School, Simmons was the girls’ water polo captain of the team and an the Most Outstanding Defensive Player during her senior year of 1994. She also swam four times in varsity swimming and was awarded four-time MVP of the team and two times champions of the league. As a freshman in 1995, Simmons established the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) record in the 100 breaststroke and 100 freestyle. Simmons was tied for the top scorer on the team having scored nine goals. The year 2001 was the time she brought home the silver medal at the FINA World Water Polo Championship and was the team’s leader in scoring.

Coralie Simmons was a two-time National Player of the Year at UCLA. In her final season with the Bruins in 2001, UCLA captured its fourth national title in the inaugural NCAA Women’s Water Polo Championship. Simmons scored with just 1:28 remaining in the final period to give the Bruins a 5-4 win, and was named the tournament MVP. She owns three of UCLA’s four offensive records in women’s water polo, including career and season goals.
