She was a columnist at The Cleveland Plain Dealer newspaper from 1993 to 2011. She was awarded the prize in the year 2005. Pulitzer Prize for Commentary for “her pungent columns that provided a voice for the underdog and underprivileged”. She was married to Sherrod Brown, the senior Democratic U.S. Senator from Ohio who she resigned from the newspaper to avoid conflicts of interests. She is a journalist in Kent State University.
