On July 1st, 2017, after leaving the Sabres as an unrestricted free agent, Schneider agreed to a two-year, two-way agreement to the New York Rangers. Schneider was named leader of the Hartford Wolf Pack ahead of the season of 2018-19. Schneider was second in players in the Wolf Pack in scoring with 25 points over 36 games. However, he became a trade target for the Rangers to the Nashville Predators in exchange for Connor Brickley on January 14 the 14th of January, 2019. Schneider was then reassigned immediately to play in the AHL with the Milwaukee Admirals. Schneider was quickly able to adapt to the Admirals scoring 22 points in the last 24 games of the regular season.

In February of this year Schneider was transferred to the Senators to the Buffalo Sabres as part of an agreement that included seven players. Schneider spent the rest of the season playing for the American Hockey League’s Rochester Americans before being called up by the Sabres and making his NHL debut on April 8, 2016.
