Morrison was born in Tooting, London. Morrison began his career with Crystal Palace of the First Division and made his debut on the 10th May 1998, as an 82nd minute replacement for Neil Shipperley and scoring an injury-time goal against rivals Sheffield Wednesday. The following season (1998-99 the first season of his full year-long stay in the league) saw Morrison score 13 goals even as Palace were struggling in and out of the field. When they were in administration Morrison was willing to join the club at no cost.
Morrison started his career with local club Crystal Palace in 1998, where he scored more than 100 goals over two periods with the club, despite a less- than-successful period with Birmingham City in between.
Morrison made his debut for Ireland in a 2–2 draw on 15 August 2001 against Croatia; he entered the game as a 52nd-minute substitute and scored the second Ireland goal. He also travelled to the 2002 World Cup, but did not play.
