Clare Jacqueline Wood (born 8 March 1968) is an ex- British number one tennis player who hails from Great Britain who began playing professionally in 1984 before retiring in 1998. Through her professional career, she achieved an all-time high singles ranking of the world’s No. singles 77 (achieved on May 2, 1994) and No. 60 in the doubles (achieved on 21 October, 1996). Wood had won an ITF singles title, and six doubles titles and also won the WTA duals crown at the 1992 Wellington Classic, having been second in the previous year. In the year of retiring, she held an overall record of 212-223 in singles wins and losses and notable wins over Jo Durie and Mary Pierce.
After she retired from competitive sport, Wood became a tennis officiator. From 1999 to 2002 she was an event manager in the WTA Tour, and from 2002, she became an assistant referee for Wimbledon which was her responsibility for junior and qualifying events. The year 2004, she served as an assistant referee for 2004, the Olympic tennis tournament, and in 2008 it was announced she would be able to fulfill the position as tennis competition manager for in the 2012 Olympic Games.
When Wood fell to Jennifer Capriati on 14 September 1989, she became the youngest Wightman Cup player, and the first player in four years to be victorious in the Wightman Cup match 6-0, 6-1.
