Eugene H. Trinh is one of the most popular and richest Astronaut who was born on September 14, 1950 in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Eugene Huu-Chau “Gene” Trinh (Vietnamese: Trinh Huu Chau, born on September 14th 1950) is a Vietnamese American biochemist who flew aboard the NASA Space Shuttle mission STS-50 as a Payload Specialist being the very first Vietnamese American astronaut in space.
In May 4, 2004, Trinh received the Golden Torch Award from the Vietnamese American National Gala in Washington, D.C.
Trinh was a crew member of the Payload Specialist on the STS-50/United states Microgravity Laboratory-1 Space Shuttle flight in 1992.

Trinh was a graduate of Lycee Michelet, in Paris, France, in 1968 with a Baccalaureate diploma. He earned an undergraduate Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering and Applied Physics at Columbia University in 1972. Then he attended Yale University, earning a Masters of Science in 1974 as well as then a Masters of Philosophy in 1975 as well as an Doctorate of Philosophy in Applied Physics in 1977.
Trinh has been appointed Director for the Physical Sciences Research Division in the Biological and Physical Research Enterprise at NASA headquarters. He joined NASA in 1979 as a Senior Research Scientist in the Jet Propulsion Laboratory. He was involved in theoretical and experimental research on the fields of Fluid Dynamics Fundamental Materials Science, and Levitation Technology for 20 years. He conducted hands-on experiments on the NASA KC-135 aircraft, as well as in the Space Shuttle Columbia.
