Clarita Crisostomo Dela Fente De Guzman (born on December 28th 1958) is better popularly referred to as Claire de la Fuente, is a Filipino singer who gained notoriety in the late 1970s , with the jukebox smash “Sayang”. The song was dubbed “Asia’s Sweetest Voice” because of her gorgeous voice. She was called “the Karen Carpenter of the Philippines” because her voice bears an eerie resemblance of Karen Carpenter, the singer who died in. The first album she released in 1977 was at the time the Philippines largest-selling album ever. She then recorded 7 more records. In addition to “Sayang”, she is well-known for her hits such as “Minsan-Minsan” and “Nakaw Na Pag-ibig”.
In December 2006 her husband and best-friend for nearly 28 years Moises (Boy) de Guzman passed away after the five-month battle with cancer. He left de la Fuente and her two boys, Gregorio (Gigo) and Gracielo (Mickey).
In 2010, she recorded a duet with Michael Bolton, “The Christmas Song”. The duet was included on her The Christmas Album under Viva Records.
She is also a successful businesswoman. She is the president of the Integrated Metropolitan Bus Operators Association (IMBOA), though her bus franchise was cancelled in 2011 for joining a nationwide transport strike.
Six years after, de la Fuente was elected as president of the Integrated Metro Bus Operators Association (IMBOA) who comprise 70 percent of the bus drivers that operate in Metro Manila. The year 2003 was the time de la Fuente made headlines after she led an opposition to the color-coding system that the MMDA had put in place for one week for all utility vehicles owned by public utilities in an experiment in traffic. This caused her to be at odds with the equally obnoxious MMDA Chairperson Bayani Fernando.
