Christopher Carl “Chris” Giesting (born December 10 1992) is an American sprinter in track and field who competes in the 400-meter sprint. He was the gold medalist in the 4×400-meter relay in the 2015 IAAF World Indoor Championships. He played for the collegiate team of Notre Dame Fighting Irish and took home one NCAA indoor championship.

In the year 2017, Giesting joined the New Jersey-New York Track Club under the guidance of coach by Frank Gagliano in an effort to compete at the 800m. He ran 1:46.49 in the first year of competing at this distance. In 2018 the year he competed as a member of the World Indoor Record setting 4x800m with the time of 7:11.30.

For his debut international calling-up in his first international call-up, his team was a representative of in the United States on home turf in Portland, Oregon, taking the gold medal at the 2016 IAAF World Indoor Championships. As part of a team consisting of Kyle Clemons, Calvin Smith Jr. and Vernon Norwood, they ran the third-fastest time during the indoor 4 400 m relay, clocking 3:02.45 minutes.

In Indianapolis with parents Terry Giesting and Suzanne Westerfeld, Giesting grew up in Batesville, Indiana and attended Batesville High School where Giesting was a part of the school’s track, basketball, and cross-country teams. After finishing his studies at the end of 2011, Giesting went on to attend an in-state college and at the University of Notre Dame, being a part of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish track team together with sprinter Oye Eyeguokan, who was part of the impressive recruiting class of the year 2011. In his debut year at the school and his first national championship in the NCAA Indoor Championships, taking the first college-wide distance medley relay crown together with Johnathan Shawel, Randall Babb and Jeremy Rae. He also ran an impressive sprint double in the Big East Conference Championships, winning the 200-meter race and the 400-meter dash.

In 2013, the Big East Indoor Championships, his team finished in the top three places of the 200 meters, 500 meters and four-x 400 m relays. Then, he was able to finish 8th in the race for 400 meters race at the NCAA Indoors. He was just a hair short of winning the Big East Outdoor double, winning the 400m, however, he finished second in the 200 meters. The following year, his threerd the athlete made it to the NCAA Outdoor finalist in both the individual 400 m race and the relay. In the 2014 NCAA Indoor Championships he came fifth in the 400m and was a part of helping Notre Dame to the sprint relay crown. In regionals, he was the winner in the 400m race and the 200 m runner-up in the Atlantic Coast Conference before goin on to make it to the top of each event outdoor. For his accomplishments as a student-athlete was awarded the ACC Academic Scholar of the Year in both the indoor and outdoor seasons.
