He raced in the Motocross World Championships as well as the AMA Motocross Championships from 2004 until 2016 and completed his final season of racing at his 2017 CMA Canadian motocross national championship.
After he recovered after sustaining injuries Pourcel was signed on to race at the AMA Motocross Championship for the Team Pro Circuit-Kawasaki team. He had a remarkable recovery from injuries when he won his first race since returning to the opening race for the 2009 AMA Supercross East championship. Pourcel won in 2009 the AMA Supercross East championship in an impressive manner, winning four wins in the eight-race series. He also took home his 2009. Las Vegas East/West Supercross Lites Shootout featuring the top athletes from both the Supercross East and Supercross West championships. This included the Western champion Ryan Dungey.
He entered in five races with his best results being two 2nd place finishes and ended the 2011 season ranked 17th in the MX1 world championship. In the 2012 MX1 World Championship, Pourcel won two Grand Prix races along with five 2nd place results to improve to fourth in the final championship standings.
Pourcel had planned on moving up to the 450cc class with Kawasaki for the 2011 season but, when Jake Weimer got the job instead, Pourcel was signed by the MotoConcepts Yamaha team to compete in the 2011 AMA 250cc Motocross National Championship. After a troublesome two-race stint, he quit the team and returned to Europe to compete in the MX1 Motocross World Championship.
In the lead-up to the 2007 FIM Motocross World Championship, Pourcel made a trip across America. United States to compete in the three-race 250 West Supercross championship where he placed first, second and 21st. On the 22nd of August in 2007, Pourcel was involved in a fatal accident during the Grand Prix of Northern Ireland. He sustained a back injury that resulted in partially paralyzed for a long period of time, which caused him to be out of the race for the entire 2008 season.

Pourcel is a native of Marseille, France. He began his world championship Motocross debut at 16 while riding the Kawasaki in the 2004 MX2 French Grand Prix. The following year , during his first full-time season of competition Pourcel scored his first win in a race taking on future world champion Tony Cairoli in the second Moto in the 2005 MX2 Czech Republic Grand Prix. Pourcel was ranked fifth in the overall world championship results. In 2006, he swept past Cairoli during a long-running battle to win an MX2 Motocross World Championship, becoming the eighth Frenchman to win the Motocross World Championship and the third-youngest racer to be the winner of one. Cairoli was to become among the top motocross athletes ever, winning nine world championships.

In 2010, Pourcel successfully defended his AMA Supercross East championship. With Dungey moving up to the 450cc class, Pourcel was able to build a nine- point lead over Trey Canard going into the final race of the championship and, only had to secure a third place to clinch the title. In a dramatic turn of events, Pourcel suffered a crash in the final race and separated his shoulder, allowing Canard to claim the national championship.
