Christoph Schubert is one of the most popular and richest German ice hockey player who was born on February 5, 1982 in Munich, Germany. Christoph Schubert (born February 5 1982) is a retired German professional hockey player. Schubert played in over 300 matches during the National Hockey League (NHL) for the Atlanta Thrashers and Ottawa Senators between 2005 and 2010.

He scored his first NHL goal against his future teammates Martin Gerber of the Carolina Hurricanes on the 22nd of November 2005. The 2006-2007 Super Skills Competition for the Senators, although he was beaten by Mike Fisher for the hardest shot, he took first position on the relay to control puck segment.

At the beginning of the 2009–10 season, on October 2, Schubert was claimed off waivers by the Atlanta Thrashers. Schubert remained on the Thrashers roster primarily as a depth player and in 47 games scored 2 goals and 7 points.

In the following 2010–11 season, Schubert was unable to garner another NHL contract and after eight years returned to Europe, signing with Frölunda HC of the Swedish Elitserien on September 15, 2010. Contributing 4 assists in 23 games with the Indians, Schubert was mutually released from his contract and returned to his native Germany, signing a two-year deal with the Hamburg Freezers of the DEL on December 8, 2010. In November 2011, he signed a contract extension until 2015 and in July 2013, Schubert inked a new deal with the Freezers that would keep him in Hamburg until 2017.

Schubert was a member of Schubert’s German national team during the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City as well as the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin. The team did not make the medal round both times.

Schubert began playing in junior section from the EHC Klostersee and moved, after his junior career into the team of DNL EV Landshut. In the 1999-2000 season at the age of 17 Schubert began his career in the Oberliga. When EV Landshut missed promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga, he joined his team at home for the next season German champions in the Munich Barons in the Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL). In the following two seasons, he grew into a strong defenceman who had strong slap shots. In the spring of 2001 the Barons were third at the German championship. After the end of the 2001-02 season Schubert was selected 127th overall during the NHL Entry Draft by the Ottawa Senators. Schubert is generally regarded as skilled defenceman and forward who checks with a bit of physical potential.

Schubert was also a part of also the World Championships in 2002, 2005 2008, 2009, 2002 and 2012 and was a participant at his participation in the 2004 World Cup of Hockey.

One of his greatest assets is his shot, which was measured at over 100 mph in the 2005–06 Senators’ Super Skills Competition, giving him the second-hardest shot in Senators team history behind former teammate Zdeno Chára.
