Christine Arron (born 13 September 1973) is an ex-track and field athlete who was a world champion with France in the 60m 100m 200 metres, and the four-x100 metres relay. In 2017, she was the sixth-fastest female 100m sprinter with 10.73 seconds and still holds an European record. She broke the record by winning the 1998 European Championships, where she also took home a gold medal at the 4-x 100m relay. In 2001, following an intense training session in the US in conjunction with John Smith and the HSI group, Arron quit training for one year. She claimed that she was physically exhausted by the training. “It was hell. Every morning I wondered how I was going to put up with the burden of training.” The hip injury she suffered that prevented her from participating in at the 2001 World Championships.
Arron won her only Olympic medal, a bronze medal, in the 4 × 100 m relay at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece.
In August 2005, Arron won a bronze medal in the 100 metres and 200 metres at the 2005 World Championships.
On the 19th of August 1998 Arron took home the 100 meters gold award at the 1998 European Championships in Budapest by running the final in the new European record that was 10.73 seconds. With a timing in 10.73 seconds was the second fastest female 100-meter sprinter just behind Florence Griffith-Joyner (10.49 seconds set the record in 1988). She also took home the 4x100m relay gold medal in the championships. She was awarded the 1997 European Women’s Athlete of the Year.

Born at Les Abymes, Guadeloupe, Arron was brought to Metropolitan France in 1990 and initially trained with Fernand Urtebise. Urtebise also trained the former 400 meters hurdles and the 4 x 400 meters relay gold medallist Stephane Diagana.

She recovered from 3 m behind the newly crowned, 100 m 2003 World Champion, Torri Edwards, to give the home crowd at the Stade de France an unexpected joy.

Considering the controversy surrounding the performances of the world record-holder (10.49 sec, set in 1988), Florence Griffith-Joyner, many considered Arron’s time of 10.73 sec. set during the 1998 European Championships to be the ‘true’ world record. Besides Griffith- Joyner, only Carmelita Jeter, Marion Jones and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce have run faster than Arron in the 100 metres.
