Hoke has attended Foothill High School in Santa Ana, California, and received three letters from the varsity in track and field and football. In football Hoke was three-time All-League honoree as well as a two-time All CIF honoree and two-time All-County awardee. As an senior, he was awarded to be the League Defender of the Year. He led his squad to CIF quarterfinals. In track and field Hoke was three times League Champion, and a three-time CIF Meet participant. Hoke completed his studies at Foothill High School in 1994.
Hoke received a contract from his team, the Pittsburgh Steelers as an undrafted free agent following during the NFL Draft. For the first three seasons during his Steelers career Hoke was not active for the majority of his time and was not given the chance to play. In 2004 Hoke recorded 24 tackles and one sack, after taking over the position of nose tackle in place of injury-stricken Casey Hampton six games into the season. In 2005 Hoke had six tackles. He was part of the Steelers team which took home Super Bowl XL where he also recorded one tackle. The following year the team played all 16 games and concluded playing with 12 red cards. On June 21 the 21st of June, 2007, the player signed a three-year extension to 2010. He ended the 2007 season by registering six tackles as well as 0.5 Sacks. Hoke began his first game of the 2008 season the Pittsburgh’s Sunday Night Football game against the Ravens in Week Four of the 2008 season.
