In Inverness in the year 1966, Christie made his debut in professional soccer in with Caledonian within the Scottish Highland Football League. In 1985, he was transferred to the local team Inverness Thistle. In September 1987, he joined for Celtic in which he played 55 appearances in the league and also scored 25 goals in the reserves team. He wasn’t able to make it into Celtic initial team in part because of the performance by Frank McAvennie, who played in the same position as a striker. Christie returned to Caledonian the following year, playing the role as a player and commercial manager.

In later seasons, Christie played his football career with his work as an assistant coach for the club. Christie retired from football in the May of 2004, after having played 314 appearances and scored 34 goals.

After he retired as a player Christie continued to work as the youth development coach in Caley Thistle. When he was hired in the month of November, after the manager John Robertson left Caley Thistle to be director of Hearts, Christie assisted the director of football Graeme Bennett in managing the team until a replacement be identified. After Craig Brewster joined as player-manager Christie was promoted to the first team coach. She was in charge until January.

Charlie Christie (born 30 March 1966) is a Scottish professional footballer and coach who was striker, and later as midfielder. He was a member of Inverness Caledonian Thistle throughout the club’s initial ten years of existence (1994-2004) with more than 250 appearances. He then as the club’s manager from January 2006 to August 2007. He was also a part of the Scottish Highland Football League for Caledonian and Inverness Thistle before those clubs amalgamated to form Caledonian Thistle and was a reserve player for Celtic.

In 1994, after Inverness Thistle and Caledonian merged to create Inverness Caledonian Thistle, Christie joined the new club. He Christie merged his role as a player and the running of the Centenary Club lottery. He initially played as an attacking player, but later returning to a midfielder position. He was the sole player to be a part of Caley Thistle throughout the first ten seasons and was a part of some of the club’s memorable games throughout the period and even in the famous 3-1 Scottish Cup defeat of Celtic on February 8th, 2000. his performance earned him the sponsorship’s Man of the match award.

When Brewster left the club on 13 January 2006, Christie was appointed caretaker manager. On 27 January 2006 he was given the manager’s job on a permanent basis, with Donald Park as his assistant. Christie made Ross County midfielder John Rankin his first signing as Caley Thistle manager with a fee of £65,000 paid to their Highland neighbours. The deal also smashed Caley Thistle’s previous record transfer fee paid to Highland League Club, Lossiemouth FC. of £35,000 for striker Ian Stewart. Christie remained in the job for nearly nineteen months before his resignation in August 2007.
