Chantelle Lee Newbery, OAM (nee Michell) (born 6 May 1977) is an former Australian diver as well as an Olympic gold medallist. She won the Gold medal from diving during the 2004 Summer Olympics and, in 2006 she became the 22nd athlete included among the Australian Institute of Sport Awards’ “Best of the Best”.
In 2005’s Australia Day Honours Newbery was an awardee of the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM). In 2005 she was admitted into the Australian Institute of Sport ‘Best of the Best’.
In November 2018 Newbery was charged with six counts of theft, leading to a three month prison sentence but she was released on parole instead.
Newbery was to not dive for over one year during her pregnancy with their first baby. She had Jet, her first son. Jet on the 22nd of February 2002. She was married in the spring of 2004. got married to Robert Newbery to allow them to participate in the Athens Olympics as husband and wife. A second son named Ryder Born in 2006.

Born in Melbourne Newbury’s first international recognition came in 1998 at the World Aquatics Championships in Perth, Australia, where she received a bronze medal for the 3m springboard event. The following year, Newbery was crowned the Commonwealth Champion by winning the gold medal in the 1m Springboard event at the 1998 Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. She also took home the silver medal just two days after on the 3m Springboard.
The 2000 Sydney Summer Olympic Games Newbery placed third at her event, the Synchronised 3m Springboard event. The highlight of her career in diving came when she won the Gold Medal in the Platform Event of 10m of the 2004 Athens Summer Olympic Games ahead of Lao Lishi of China and the fellow Australian, Loudy Tourky. Newbery is among one of a few women to have experienced Olympic success following becoming mothers.
In 2009 Newbery told Australian magazine Woman’s Day that she was admitting herself to a psychiatric hospital for severe depression. She had also made suicide attempts.
