On March 19, Mata’utia re-signed with the Knights for a three-year contract along as his two brothers Sione as well as Pat. Then, in May of this year, he took part for New South Wales Residents against the Queensland Residents and scored two attempts, this time with Peter, his brother. Peter. Chanel was able to play just one NRL game during the season of 2015.

In 2018, Mata’utia joined the Cessnock Goannas.

In the 20th round of 2014’s NRL season Mata’utia played the NRL debut with the Knights against the Sydney Roosters, alongside his brother Sione Mata’utia who made his debut with The Knights at the time of the match. It marked the first occasion since the start of Round 1 of 1942’s NSWRFL season that the brothers made their debut in the same game, Bill and Doug McRitchie making their debut as the St. George Dragons on the same day. On September 9, 2014, McRitchie was selected as a member of the Samoa training-on squad of the 2013 Four Nations, but didn’t make it into the final squad of 24 players. In September of 2014 the player signed a letter of intention in order to sign a contract with the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs on a 4-year contract that will begin in 2016 together with the brothers Sione as well as Pat. But the rules of the NRL did not permit the Bulldogs to officially register their contracts until the 30th of June in 2015, leaving the possibility to remain with the Knights open to the Mata’utias.

Mata’utia said after being released “The club has been great to me and I will miss everyone, but it is the right time for me to step away from the game at this level”.
