Kilger recorded the unofficial hockey record for the most powerful shot on the 3rd of December 2006. He recorded at 106.6 mph. This was faster than the previous record set by ex- Sharks defenceman Shawn Heins (106.0 mph). The previous NHL record belonged to former Capitals defensive player Al Iafrate, whose record was 105.2 mph. Kilger’s record, which was not officially recorded, was broken by Sheldon Souray, who shot an unofficial record of 106.7 mph shot during the Edmonton Oilers’ skills competition in 2009.
Kilger’s statistics didn’t improve until he joined The Chicago Blackhawks. In 86 games during the course of two seasons playing for the Blackhawks He had 36 point. Then, in the month of March 1999 went with the Edmonton Oilers with Daniel Cleary, Ethan Moreau, and Christian Laflamme for Boris Mironov, Dean McAmmond and Jonas Elofsson and, in November 2000, the player went for the Montreal Canadiens for Sergei Zholtok. He was successful in the beginning however as his ice time decreased, as did his points totals. In his debut campaign with the Canadiens the average was 17:57 the ice. In his youth, Kilger played in the 1990 Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament as part of his Seaway Valley minor ice hockey team from Cornwall, Ontario.
Kilger was a player for 2 seasons in junior hockey within the Ontario Hockey League with the Kingston Frontenacs. He was later drafted in the 4th round from the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim in the 1995 NHL Entry Draft. The team was formed in the fall of 1995, but on February 7, 1996, the team traded him along with Oleg Tverdovsky and a third round draft choice for the Winnipeg Jets in exchange for Teemu Selanne Marc Chouinard and a fourth-round selection in the draft. He the remainder of his time playing for the minor league team of Winnipeg called the Springfield Falcons.
On the NHL trade deadline date, February 26, 2008, the Leafs dealt Kilger to the Florida Panthers for a third-round draft pick. He immediately requested a leave of absence from Panthers’ management, which was granted. However, he did not report to the team at the pre-arranged time, and on March 5, the Panthers suspended him indefinitely without pay. Kilger failed to report to training camp at the beginning of the 2008–09 season, and was officially confirmed to be retired on July 10, 2009.
