Bugz is one of the most popular and richest American rapper who was born on January 5, 1978 in Detroit, Michigan, United States. In the late 1990s, D12 opened for Lil Kim at her Detroit show. This was when a rivalry began with Natas, a Detroit-based band. Esham Smith, a member of the Natas band, was allegedly attacked by D12 friends after being invited to perform onstage. Eminem, a D12 member, was initially friendly with Natas. However, he had a fallout with Esham when he criticised Esham’s second record. Murder Dog spoke with Esham about D12’s comments calling them “the Village People” and Eminem “a super butch”, as well as referring to Eminem’s daughter Hailie being in a coma during the song “Chemical Imbalance”. D12 responded with “Instigator”, dissing Natas. Proof, however, made two diss tracks specifically targeting Esham, “Every Sucker has a Moment” (though the latter was not released). Both sides attempted to make amends before joining the Warped Tour 2001. Esham, who allegedly threw objects at D12’s bus, triggered a fight. According to Smith’s label spokeswoman, Smith suffered a broken nose and bruised ears. Mastamind, a Natas member, was left with multiple bruises and cuts. Both were taken out of the Warped Tour lineup and prohibited from performing at the festival ever again.

Bugz was finishing his first solo album Mr. Obnoxious at the time of his passing. It was released posthumously in 2002. D12 recorded their debut album Devil’s Night in his honor. Eminem’s third album The Marshall Mathers LP is also dedicated in his memory. D12’s second album D12 World features the track “Good Die Young”, which is dedicated to Bugz. The album also contains “Bugz’97”, an original 1997 recording from “Desperados”.

In August 2001, D12 and Esham were kicked off the Warped Tour after members of the group allegedly physically attacked Esham over the lyrics of his song “Chemical Imbalance”, which contained a reference to Eminem’s daughter. Eminem was not present during the tour.

Their debut album, Devil’s Night, referring to the tradition of setting unoccupied buildings on fire the night before Halloween, was released in June

  1. It debuted at number one on the U.S. and number two on the UK chart, also reaching the top of the Canadian charts. Devil’s Night went on to sell four million albums worldwide and two million in the U.S.

Bugz was at a picnic on May 21st 1999 before the Detroit show. There, an argument over a water pistol escalated to a fight. Bugz was shot four times by the man who went to his SUV and pulled out a gun. Bugz was shot four more times by the assailant, who fled the scene in his vehicle. The attack was recorded on video and broadcast later that day on local television.
