Burke (born June 30 1955) is an American-Canadian ice hockey analyst on Rogers Media broadcasts. Burke was also an executive of the ice hockey in the past, including as the hockey president operation for the Calgary Flames. He also been the general manager and president of Toronto Maple Leafs, as well as the general manager for Toronto Maple Leafs, and as the general manager of the Anaheim Ducks (winning the Stanley Cup together with their team in 2007) as well as The Vancouver Canucks, and the Hartford Whalers. Burke served as the general manager of The United States national men’s ice hockey team during this year’s Winter Olympics at Vancouver and is also a member of the Rugby Canada board of directors.
He was appointed in 1998 to took over as the general manager of Vancouver Canucks. While with the Canucks they were acknowledged for reviving the team’s popularity and increasing attendance by drafting and signing of several key players , such for Daniel Sedin, Henrik Sedin and Ryan Kesler, as the team was able to win a playoff series and won a division championship. After the 2003-04 NHL season, Canucks ownership chose not to extend Burke’s contract to the post of GM. Burke later worked briefly as an analyst on NHL matches on CBC as well as TSN. On November 29, 2008, Burke was introduced as the president and general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs, replacing interim general manager Cliff Fletcher. He became the 13th non-interim general manager of the club and the first to be American-born. He reportedly agreed to a six-year deal worth $3 million annually. Soon thereafter, on December 4, 2008, Burke offered Dave Nonis the position of senior vice president and director of hockey operations for the Maple Leafs; Nonis accepted, marking the third time he has held this post under Burke; he had done so previously in Anaheim and Vancouver.
Burke stepped down as GM of the Anaheim Ducks on November 12, 2008. The Ducks management submitted papers to the NHL, releasing him from contractual commitment.
The year was 1987 when he got hired to work for Pat Quinn to be the director of hockey operations for the Vancouver Canucks. In the 1992-93 season Burke resigned from the position to become the general manager for the Hartford Whalers. Burke quit after a single year in Hartford and was able to be a part of in the NHL team’s front desk as the executive vice director and president of hockey operations under director Gary Bettman. In this role he was NHL’s principal disciplinarian.

As of 1977, Burke was a part of his team, the Springfield Indians of the American Hockey League (AHL). Then, he played all of a season in the AHL alongside the Maine Mariners, who won the AHL Calder Cup championship that year.
