Brett Skinner (born June 28 in 1983) is an ex-professional Canadian professional defenceman for ice hockey and is currently an assistant coach of the Sioux Falls Stampede of the United States Hockey League (USHL).
The 3rd of July, 2008 Skinner was granted a one-year contract from the New York Islanders. Brett got assigned to an the affiliate with that is the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the AHL for the start of with the 2009-08 season. Following a series of injuries that affected the Islanders, Skinner was recalled and made his NHL debut in a loss of 4-2 in the New York Rangers on October 27th 28th, 2008. Skinner played in 11 games for the Isles before being sent back to the Sound Tigers. On the 13th of January of 2009 Brett got traded by the Islanders to the Atlanta Thrashers for Junior Lessard. The Thrashers then assigned him to their affiliateteam, to the Chicago Wolves, where he was for the remainder of the year.
Skinner left North America as a free agent and signed a one-year contract with the Russian team, Amur Khabarovsk, of the KHL on August 12, 2010.
In the 2011–12 season, Skinner journey-manned as he played for three different teams in three different leagues, the Iserlohn Roosters in Germany, Tappara in Finland and Modo Hockey in Sweden respectively.
Brett played in the 2006-07 seasons playing for his team the Augusta Lynx, Portland Pirates and the Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knights. The Ducks traded him to the Ducks together as Nathan Saunders, to the Boston Bruins for Mark Mowers before the start of the 2007-08 season, on September 24 in 2007. Skinner had a breakout season with The Providence Bruins recording 47 points in 68 games. He also played at the AHL All-Star game.

Skinner was selected to the Vancouver Canucks 68th overall in the 3rd round of 2002 NHL Entry Draft. Brett was a player of the Trail Smoke Eaters in the BCHL in 2000-01, then the Des Moines Buccaneers in the USHL during 2001-2002 and at the University of Denver from 2002-2005. As the Denver Pioneer He was part of both NCAA national championship teams. He was also recognized as an All- American in 2004-05. He was named captain of the team for his final season in Denver (2005-06) however, he was signed to his professional debut to the Canucks on the 30th of August 2005. He then made his professional debut with the team’s affiliateteam, that is the Manitoba Moose of the AHL in the year 2005 – 2006. The deadline for trades was reached, and Skinner was dealt to the Canucks and the 2nd round selection with a 2nd round pick, to the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim for Keith Carney and Juha Alen on March 9th of 2006. Despite the trade, Skinner remained on loan with the Moose until the conclusion in the current season.
Skinner played professionally for 11 seasons between 2005 and 2017, playing in more than 400 games for the American Hockey League (AHL) with 10 clubs as well as briefly with the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL), National Hockey League (NHL) and abroad in the Czech Republic. Skinner was chosen in The Vancouver Canucks 68th overall in the 3rd Round of the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.
On July 8, 2009, Skinner signed a one-year contract with the Colorado Avalanche. He was assigned to the Avalanche’s AHL affiliate, the Lake Erie Monsters, for 2009–10. Skinner scored 28 points in 73 games for the Monsters. During the season on January 22, 2010, Skinner was re-called but did not debut with the Avalanche.
