Brett Carson (born November 29 1985) is an Canadian professional ice hockey defenseman who is currently playing with SaiPa within the Finnish Liiga. He played previously for the National Hockey League (NHL) with the Carolina Hurricanes and the Calgary Flames.

On the 8th of September 2013 Carson signed a one-year deal for a one-year period with AIK Stockholm of the Swedish Hockey League. In his debut European season of 2013-2014, Carson established a stay-at-home role for AIK which saw him score three goal and 10 point over 49 games with the blue line.

On August 6, 2015, Carson moved to the Finnish Liiga as a free agent, securing a one-year deal with SaiPa.

Carson was split for the entire 2010-11 season with the Hurricanes as well as the American Hockey League’s Charlotte Checkers, but was taken of Calgary Calgary Flames of waivers on February 28th the 28th of February, the 28th of February. He only played in seven games in the Flames and was then accepted by the team to an extension of two years at the end of the year. He was not able to play in the first three games of the 2011-12 season due to having a back injury during the summer training. He was not able to start his season with Calgary until the 14th of December 2011.

Carson started playing junior hockey with Moose Jaw Warriors of the Western Hockey League (WHL) however, he was assigned by Calgary Hitmen. In 2006-07, Carson was a part of the EHL’s Florida Everblades before earning promotion to Carolina’s most prestigious affiliate which is known as the Albany River Rats of the American Hockey League (AHL). After a brief stint in Albany for the next season, Carson led the defensemen of the team with 24 points over 77 games. Carson began his NHL debut in 2008-09, appearing in his first five games on on December 7, 2008 with the Washington Capitals. He played the majority of 2010’s NHL season playing for Carolina and played in 54 games and scoring 12 points. He made the initial NHL point on the 16th of December in 2009 as he was a co-assistant on an Tuomo Ruutu goal in the game against the Dallas Stars, and his first goal came on Jan. 10, 2010 in a match against Pascal Leclaire of the Ottawa Senators.

On July 9, 2014, Carson opted to leave the SHL and signed a one-year contract with Austrian club, the Vienna Capitals of the EBEL. In the 2014–15 season, Carson scored a team high 9 goals from the blueline with 24 points in 54 games. In the post-season he helped Vienna reach the Championship finals.
