David Oswald “Bobby” Barnes (born 17 December 1962) is an English professional footballer who played forward. He played over 300 games within the Football League and represented England in the youth ranks.

In 1996, after his retirement He was a member of the Professional Footballers Association (PFA) in which he handled new contract signings for players and also provided financial advice. In 2006, he was the vice-president for the PFA.

He was signed by Partick Thistle in February 1994 when he made an appearance for the Scottish League in a 5-1 defeat against Rangers at Ibrox However, he only played 6 more games in the league with the Jags before departing to join Uhisport Rangers in Hong Kong and then return to UK at the end of September, joining Torquay United on a free transfer. He was only a part of Torquay in the substitute position prior to his departure to join a free transfer with Hendon in the month of October 1995. Hendon then back in Hong Kong to play for Frankwell FC.

Barnes who was born in Kingston upon Thames, London was a quick and skilled winger. He began his professional career as an apprentice for West Ham United, the team he played for when he was a child, and won the FA Youth Cup winners medal in 1981, and England Youth international caps. He made his professional debut in the month of September in 1980. He scored the day of his League debut at Watford in September of 1980. He was a regular in the first team during the 1983-84 campaign and played during the 1984-85 season having played 43 games across six seasons and with five scoring goals. He joined Scunthorpe United on loan in November 1985. He appeared in six league matches without scoring until he joined Aldershot in March of 1986 for the sum of 15,000 pounds. He immediately became a success scoring 26 goals in his 49 league matches and helped Aldershot to be promoted through the first-ever Third Division play- offs in 1987.

He was signed in the month of October, 1987. made the move from Second Division side Swindon Town for a cost of £50,000 in a deal which also resulted in Steve Berry go in the opposite direction. He scored in six consecutive games in the league in the months of October through December and would go to make more than 40 league appearances and score 13 times during his two seasons with Swindon. He was signed by Bournemouth for the sum of £110,000 in March

However, the club did not settle him and after 14 games during which scored nothing, was transferred for Northampton Town for PS70,000. Barnes was able to make an impact despite Northampton being demoted and along alongside Tony Adcock formed a successful striker-partnership, Barnes scored 37 goals in the 98 league matches with the Cobblers. In February 1992 the financial crisis reached its peak at Northampton as the club being in administration as well, both Barnes as well as Adcock were transferred in a deal with Peterborough United, Barnes costing just PS35,000 in a contract of just PS65,000. He played 49 games during the season for Peterborough and scored nine goals, and securing his way to promotion into the First Division beating Stockport in the Wembley play-off in the year 1992.
