Van den Berg was selected to be part of the Dutch team at the 2016 Summer Olympics shooting both individually and team recurve events. He first was the leader of the Dutch trio with 1981 points, which saw him finish 9th in the ranking round and his personal score of 684 to be the fourth seed going to the knockout phase. In the recurve for men’s teams, van den Berg, together alongside teammates Dielemans as well as van der Ven were able to defeat the Spaniards the first round, only to end up losing 2-6 to final the champion South Korea in the quarterfinals . When his teammates lost during the finals of the single reccurve match, Van den Berg survived throughout the entire match, until the semifinals, when his team lost to Frenchman Jean Charles Valladont in an overtime match that ended in a 3-7. Despite losing in the semifinals, Van den Berg seized a opportunity to become the Netherlands first Olympic medalist in archery in 16 years. However, he suddenly ended his career in losing 2-6 to U.S. archer Brady Ellison.
