After beginning his professional career at Caen during the 1998-99 season, Mendy moved to Paris Saint-Germain in 2000, where his eight-year career was interrupted only by a lengthy loan to Bolton Wanderers. He then played in the teams of Hull City and OB before returning to France to join Brest in the year 2012. In the following years, he played for Indian club Chennaiyin FC and East Bengal FC and also with Cypriot club AEL Limassol.
