Barry Nicholson (born 24 August 1978) is an Scottish Former professional soccer player who was an attacking midfielder. He is the current manager of the development squad at Fleetwood Town and also the caretaker manager for First team players.
Nicholson’s impressive performances during his time at East End Park saw him be signed by Aberdeen for a sum of PS250,000 in July of 2005. He also returned to his the club’s former manager Calderwood who later moved to Pittodrie. The move was a success due to his impressive performance towards the conclusion of the season of 2006-07 allowed him to score crucial goals. The most memorable of these was the goal in the final minute against Hearts that almost secured third spot for Aberdeen after just two matches of the season remaining at that point.
In October 2007, Nicholson scored the first hat-trick of his career, by scoring three goals against Inverness Caledonian Thistle in the quarterfinals of the League Cup, with two of the goals being penalties.
The Dons qualified from their group in the 2007-08 UEFA Cup after a 4–0 win against F.C. Copenhagen. They were twice ahead in the next round at home against Bayern Munich before drawing 2–2. The Bavarians won the return leg comfortably.
Nicholson was a part of Dunfermline Athletic under the helm of Jimmy Calderwood and was a regular for the first team during the Pars their most successful season after they entered the George Farm era. 2002 and 2003 saw them finishing fifth and in the subsequent season they came in fourth as well as making it to the 2004 Scottish Cup Final, qualifying for the UEFA tournament for the first time in the year 1970.

The family was born in Dumfries, Nicholson watched matches of his local football club Queen of the South with his father. While playing as a youth in Dumfries the following year, he joined Rangers. The few times he played within Rangers’ top team for several years led to him moving to the next team in the year 2000.
