L’Italien (born on January 3rd 1961) is an American politician from the state of Massachusetts who was elected from January 2015 until the year in 2019 the position of State Senator for the 2nd Essex and the Middlesex District. She was the previous director of public affairs at the Treasury and Receiver General in Massachusetts, Steve Grossman. From 2003 until January of 2011, she was an elected participant in the Massachusetts House of Representatives representing the 18th Essex District.

Following her House term came to an end in January of 2011, she became the director of government affairs for new Treasurer, and Receiver General from Massachusetts, Steve Grossman until 2012.

In 2017, she announced her candidacy for Congress, representing Massachusetts’s 3rd congressional district, held by Niki Tsongas, who announced August 9, 2017 that she would not be seeking another term in Congress in 2018. She lost the primary to Lori Trahan, who then won the general election.

On July 23, 2018, L’Italien appeared on Fox & Friends First and criticized the Trump administration family separation policy. Fox had intended to book Ann Kirkpatrick, a Democrat running for Congress in Arizona’s 2nd congressional district and booked L’Italien by mistake.

In the district’s inaugural campaign during 2002, she beat Republican Kathleen Sachs and unenrolled candidate Alfred DePietro, winning by less than 1,000 votes (47-41 percentage points in favor of Sachs). The following year, she stood up for her seat in the face of Republican Maria Marasco, winning 58 percent of the votes. The year 2006 as well as 2008 Republican Lawrence Brennan ran against L’Italien. However, she was defeated by L’Italien with 56 percent of the votes in 2006 and 55% in 2008. In 2010, she was defeated in a re-election contest to the seat by Andover Republican Jim Lyons, who was elected with 53% of the votes.
