Babette Hierholzer is one of the most popular and richest Pianist who was born on March 27, 1957 in Freiburg im Breisgau, Baden-Württemberg, Germany. Hierholzer began playing the piano at age five. She received her first lessons from Elisabeth Dounias -Sindermann and Wolfgang Saschowa in Berlin. At the age of 11, She made her public debut in the Berlin Philharmonic Hall with Mozart’s Piano Concerto KV 488. Her teachers were Herbert Stessin, Lili Kraus, Claude Frank, Paul Badura-Skoda Maria Tipo and Bruno Leonardo Gelber. Herbert von Karajan for whom she auditioned, invited her to performances in her orchestra, the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra with conductors Klaus Tennstedt, Sir Colin Davis, Leopold Hager, Semyon Bychkov. Babette Hierholzer played extensively throughout Europe, North and South America as well as Africa. Her artistic endeavors focused primarily on the work by Robert or Clara Schumann. She played both Clara Schumann’s piano Concerto in A minor Op. 7 as well as the less-known concerto with F Minor (1847). She published Clara Wieck’s ‘Quatre Polonaises pour le pianoforte’ op. 1 for Ries & Erler, Berlin. In 1983 Ms. Hierholzer performed the score as well as a stand-in/double role as Clara Schumann, played by Nastassja Kinski as Peter Schamoni’s Schumann film “Spring Symphony”.
Babette Hierholzer is the Artistic Director of the German Forum, Inc. located in New York since 2005, an organization which has established its goal to bring young musicians who are from across the German spoken World for their first performances to New York. In 2014, The German Forum celebrated its 10th anniversary by performing held at the Bruno Walter Auditorium (Lincoln Center). It is the first time that The German Forum has presented more than 100 musicians and singers.
In addition to her solo work, she also founded in 2004 the Duo Lontano together with pianist Jurgen Appell in 2004. They are able to look back at years of a successful concert experience, including extended tours in Italy, Germany, Venezuela, Mexico, Russia, Poland and the USA. Their performances have included the invitation to Caracas, Venezuela, to play Mozarts “Concerto for two Pianos and orchestra in E flat-Major together with Orchestra Orquesta Juvenil Simon Bolivar led by Gustavo Dudamel. In March 2016 , Duo Lontano received an invitation to Havana, Cuba, to perform as well as several four- hand piano recitals , ‘The Carnival of the Animals’ composed by Camille Saint- Saens for two pianos and an orchestra. They also performed with their orchestra, the Orquesta Sinfonica Nacional de Cuba under the direction of Enrique Perez Mesa. Recent highlights in concert include performances at Wurzburg (Germany), Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (Spain), White Plains (USA) in addition to Petropolis (Brazil). In January of 2019, they performed their first performance in China. Duo Lontano recorded for GENUIN Classics at the Gewandhaus in Leipzig (Germany). The first CD was that included original four- hand compositions including the “Octet,” as well as the “Hebrides Ouverture’ composed by Felix Mendelssohn. A CD featuring works composed by Schubert was released in early 2019. A CD featuring songs from Latin America is in preparation.
