As press officer for the Department of Trade and Industry, Hazarika was persuaded by one of her friends to attend the comedy class taught by comedian Logan Murray. She started performing on comedy shows for a fee as part of her job in the DTI. The year 2003 was the time Hazarika made it to the semi-finals of the Channel 4 stand-up comedy competition So You Think You’re Funny. However, her stand-up was slowed down in 2007 when she concentrated on her career development as a political consultant.
From 2007 to 2015 Hazarika worked as a policy adviser to high-ranking Labour Party figures, including Harriet Harman and Ed Miliband as well as during the general elections, which resulted in the Conservative majority and minority.
