Alexiadou was enrolled at the level of Linguistics in the year 17th grade from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. After graduation in 1990, Alexiadou pursued a master’s program in the University of Reading and then went on towards study at the Zentrum fur Allgemeine Sprachwissenschaft in Berlin. In 1994, Alexiadou received an PhD at The University of Potsdam and also received her Habilitation there in 1999.

After receiving the Habilitation and a Habilitation, Alexiadou conducted research in MIT, Princeton University and the University of Pennsylvania on a Heisenberg fellowship. She also served as a guest professor at Tubingen in the Netherlands and Potsdam. From 2002 until 2015 Alexiadou was Professor for theoretical and English Linguistics and head of the Institute of Linguistics at the University of Stuttgart and also the project “Sonderforschungsbereich 732”. Since 2015, Alexiadou is a professor of English Linguistics at the Humboldt University of Berlin and the assistant director for the Zentrum fur Allgemeine Sprachwissenschaft.
