The World Championships Sulander won one Gold and two Silver and one Bronze medals. Sulander also took home the Bronze at the 1998 Winter Olympics and was a important participant in the Bronze match against NHL Star-powered Canada which was led by Wayne Gretzky and Patrick Roy. In addition to the 1998 Olympic competition, Sulander also played well during his 1997 Ice Hockey World Championships.
Sulander won the NLA championship with ZSC four times (2000, 2001, 2008, 2012) and the Champions Hockey League in 2008–09.
In November 2010, Sulander joined the Lahti Pelicans on loan for six games.
Sulander began his career with Jokerit at the age of a junior, and was promoted through the team to the position as the No. 1 goaltender. While in his Jokerit career Sulander played alongside Stars from the SM-liiga like Otakar Janecky Teemu Selanne Waltteri Immonen and Jari Kurri. All of them were part of Jokerit throughout the 1994-95 NHL lockout. While at Jokerit, Sulander was coached by high-profile coaches like Hannu Aravirta Boris Mayorov, and Jukka Ropponen.
