He has taught puppetry and cantastoria at colleges and universities in the U.S. and Europe, including CalArts, Rhode Island School of Design, Emerson College, the Omega Institute, George Mason University, the University of Michigan, and the Institut International de la Marionnette, Charleville- Mezieres, France, amongst others. He continues to appear in the role of Beakman on stage in Beakman Live! stage shows as well as being involved with a many artistic projects as a mentor or advisor. He has also been to a furry event known as Megaplex as the guest of honor during the city of Orlando, FL in 2010.

Paul Zaloom has produced two films. The first one is a mockumentary titled In Smog and Thunder: The Great War of the Californias which tells the story of a fictional conflict that fought between Los Angeles and San Francisco which was made available in 2003. Another film, Dante’s Inferno, is an adaptation of Dante’s epic journey through hell. It is located within Los Angeles and performed in the style of puppetry known as toy theater which makes use of cardboard cut-outs to make the sets and costumes. Zaloom wrote the script with Zaloom, was the director of puppets, and also performed a variety of characters for the production. Both films feature the art by Sandow Birk.

In Garden City, Paul Zaloom was educated at The Choate School (now Choate Rosemary Hall) in Wallingford, Connecticut, and began his professional career with Goddard College with artists in residence with the Bread and Puppet Theater which was a group that focused on self-invented theater that was made by hand. One of their locations for performance included Coney Island, where Zaloom was said to have offered tips on Coney Island’s “unofficial Mayor of Coney Island”, Dick Zigun, about how to attract the crowds. In his solo projects, Zaloom employs found-object animation where he uses objects such as humidifiers and coffee pots and transforms them into political comedy. His political views are liberal. As of 1989, Zaloom was a part of The Unnaturals the sketch comedy show starring Tim Blake Nelson, John Mariano and Siobhan Fallon Hogan. In 1992, Zaloom played a role in the popular children’s television show Beakman’s World. The show was transferred into CBS from 1993 onwards and ran over four years. Zaloom also wrote and directed eleven one-man shows that are full- length, such as Fruit of Zaloom, Sick but True, Mighty Nice and The Mother of All Enemies The latter is a shadow-puppet series that features the traditional Mid-west Asian comic-puppet character Karagoz. His most recent show addresses important issues in the world of society, including privacy, the war against terror, and discrimination that is in the context of sexual orientation and ethnicity. In addition to shadow-puppetry his unique work employs techniques like overhead projection, document exposes from the government and cantastoria’s picture performance toy theater as well like rod, hand or found object, as well as puppets made of dummies.

In 2016, Zaloom made a guest appearance in one of Captain Disillusion’s videos, debunking ‘free energy’ devices.
