He also in the 4 x 100 freestyle relays in m. He placed 14th in the 50 m Butterfly and 20th place in the 50 Freestyle. In the freestyle relay 4×100, Kothari swam the lead off leg, and the team was placed in 6th place at the end of finals.

At the beginning of his professional career Kothari took part in several open water races. In 2005, he competed in the 62nd World’s longest swim competition (82 kilometers) and was placed in second place, finishing the race in 10 hours and 28 minutes.

In 2010, he became the first swimmer from Gujarat to have represented at the Commonwealth Games and Asian Games. He has taken part in 29 National Championships where he represents his home state Gujarat.

In the age group of 4, Kothari was diagnosed with chronic flat foot syndrome. Numerous doctors believed that he would never stand straight again, and suggested that his parents undergo surgery however, his parents chose the non- traditional route and put him in physical and athletic activities. Kothari began his gymnastics journey and then in 1999, he went to a camp for summer of swimming. Kothari soon fell in love with water , and that’s when his journey into swimming began.

In the 4×100 m freestyle relay, Kothari swam the second leg and the team finished at 8th position in the finals creating a new Best Indian Performance in the morning heats.
