She has been an four-time Olympian (1996 in 2000 2004 and in 2008) and a multi-time Austrian diving champ in her discipline. Richter has also been the younger sister of Jurgen Richter who is one of the springboard divers who participated in the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona and is the granddaughter of Liesl Perkaus, who was a multi-time Austrian track and field champ. She was also discus thrower, who competed in the 1928 Summer Olympics in Amsterdam.

In 2006, she took home the silver medal in similar diving discipline in the European Aquatics Championships in Budapest, Hungary, accumulating a score of 332.35 points. Richter also earned a fifth-place finishing at the FINA Diving World Cup at Changshu, China, by one point in front of Canadian Marie-Eve Marleau, with a total score of 331.65.
In 2004, at the Summer Olympics at Athens, Richter, however she was not successful in her attempt to make it to a 12-woman final. She finished fifteenth on the women’s podium by six points , six points lower than Germany’s Annett Gamm, who had the total result of 472.44.

At the age of nineteen, Richter made her official debut in her first Summer Olympics at Atlanta and finished 11th in the women’s podium scoring 408.45.
In in the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Richter achieved her best diving performance of her career, with a seventh-place finish at the female platform. She scored the total result of 313.38. Richter also joined forces with her teammate Marion Reiff in the women’s platform that was synchronized. However, they barely missed winning an Olympic medal , by just seven points. She was just seven points ahead of her fellow Australian Team (Rebecca Gilmore as well as Loudy Tourky) with their final score as 294.00.
Twelve years after competing in her first Olympics, Richter qualified for her fourth Austrian team, as a 30-year-old, at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. She placed twenty-second out of twenty-nine divers in the preliminary round of the women’s platform event, by two points behind France’s Audrey Labeau, with a total score of 287.70. Shortly after the Olympics, Richter announced her retirement from diving career to work as a lecturer and officer for the Ministry of National Defense and Sport.
