Perera was the first player to make the T20I debut playing against Bangladesh in 2013. The following year, Perera also made his debut as an ODI player against South Africa at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium. After a series of ups and downs, Perera made the ODI squad to play Australia and played at the end of the fourth ODI in Dambulla.
Angelo Perera married Ravindi Samarasekera on 5 May 2018 at the age of 28. The marriage took place at St. Mary’s Church.
In March 2018, he was named in Colombo’s squad for the 2017–18 Super Four Provincial Tournament. The following month, he was also named in Colombo’s squad for the 2018 Super Provincial One Day Tournament. In August 2018, he was named in Galle’s squad the 2018 SLC T20 League.
Perera made his debut in the first class in the match against Badureliya Sports Club in 2009-10. In the Nondescripts Cricket Club, Perera recorded a brilliant 244-run performance during the game against Sri Lanka Air Force Sports Club and gave his team 39 runs and an innings. The partnership of 405 between him and Jehan Mubarak during the game was the best partnership ever for the fourth wicket of the first-class game played on Sri Lankan soil. Perera scored 30 sixes and 30 fours in his innings that needed only 204 balls . It was also his most successful first-class score.

He was a part of Sri Lanka Schools in an Inter-Provincial Twenty20 Tournament in 2007-08 as well as in the following season.
