After Moya’s earlier exile from the prison the year 2011 Moya and Soler decided to stay in Cuba and keep a constant campaign in support of the freedom of prisoners from political prisons even though they were offered the opportunity to move to Spain.
The time came that Moya was diagnosed with a herniated disc in October 2004 Soler initiated an effort to convince the government to grant him surgery, writing an email in support of President Fidel Castro on behalf of him and holding a demonstration in Havana’s Plaza de la Revolucion with the ladies in White. The protest was described by Soler in terms of “my right and duty as a wife”. Following two weeks of protests, Moya was given surgery.

Moya was a fighter for one and a half years during his fight against the Cuban conflict in Angola in the latter part of the 1980s. The following decade, Moya was arrested several times due to his political activism. On December 17, 1997, Moya was detained while he was on his way to an open memorial. Later, in November 1999, he was detained for his participation in a prayer for Oscar Biscet, a dissident. On December 15, 1999, he had been questioned and imprisoned following a protest together with other Alternative Option Movement members Guido and Ariel Sigler Amaya; the arrest of the latter caused Amnesty International to designate him as a prisoner with a conscience. The year 2000 saw him was detained and sentenced to a year in prison in prison for “disrespect” after commemorating the anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
He was remanded in prison in his time in the Black Spring in 2003, and sentenced to 20 years of prison. The wife of his Berta Soler, who is now the head in the Ladies in White movement, was a campaigner on his behalf.
In March 2012, Soler and Moya were detained along with three dozen other demonstrators when they staged their weekly protest ahead of a visit of Pope Benedict XVI. Soler told reporters that authorities had warned the Ladies to avoid Benedict’s public appearances, including masses.
