Zvika Greengold is one of the most popular and richest Military Personnel who was born on February 10, 1952 in Lohamei HaGeta'ot, Northern District, Israel. He then spotted the approaching 452nd Tank Battalion. He attacked the enemy and used the darkness to trick the Syrians into believing that he was stronger than he was. Greengold destroyed or damaged ten of the enemy’s armoured vehicles, convincing them that they were facing an enormous force. Even Greengold’s superiors believed he was lying; he didn’t dare to report on the radio how weak he really was, fearing it would be intercepted. He could only say “The situation isn’t good”. He could only hint that “the situation isn’t good” at a time Zvika Force was composed of one tank. Colonel Yitzhak Benjamin-Shoham assumed that it was “of at most company strength”.

In a 2015 Jerusalem Post article, Greengold recalls that he was part a force consisting of 14 tanks, which engaged a whole Syrian armored regiment, “comprised of about 100 tanks and 40 armored personnel carrier.” He and others ran over to help the defense when Nafekh was attacked by a new force of T-62s. In the midst of the fighting, an exhausted Greengold got out his tank and fell to the ground. He murmured, “I can’t anymore.”

Zvi “Zvika” Greengold was born on February 10, 1952, which makes him 69 years old as of 2021. He was raised on Kibbutz Lohamey HaGeta’ot (English: Kibbutz of the Ghetto Fighters), which was founded by Holocaust survivors of underground and partisan combat against the Nazis. His parents were among the founders of the kibbutz.

Zvika Greengold is renowned for his heroic efforts during the 1973 Yom Kippur War as a tank commander. As a twenty-one-year-old Lieutenant, he proved his bravery when Egypt and Syria launched a coordinated surprise attack. He was placed in charge of two damaged Centurion tanks and managed to destroy six Syrian army tanks, among other enemy vehicles.

Despite being outnumbered and mostly alone, Greengold fought for 20 hours, showing up time and again at critical moments in various skirmishes. At one point, he claimed to have destroyed 20 enemy tanks, though other estimates place his tally at 60.

Greengold is one of only eight people who fought in the Yom Kippur War to be awarded the Medal of Valor – the nation’s highest medal for heroism.
