He served as Minister of Justice in Georgia between November 2008 and October 2012.

The new Government launched criminal prosecutions against Saakashvili government officials shortly after the elections. The international community was critical of the prosecutions, citing concerns about what appeared to be selective justice, political reprisal and intimidation against opposition. After the bloodless “Rose Revolution”, which took down Shevardnadze in November 2003, Adeishvili was elected as the Minister of Justice (December 2003-February 2004), Minister for State Security from February-June 2004, and Prosecutor General from January 2004 to January 2008. He also served as Head of Administration of the President of Georgia (January to November 2008). Adeishvili was an influential member of the government and a close ally to President Saakashvili. He has been criticized by the Georgian opposition for his role as Head of Administration of President of Georgia (January-November 2008). Adeishvili was reappointed to the Ministry of Justice, which had been merged with Prosecutor General’s Office in October 2008. Adeishvili stated that liberalization of the criminal law would be his priority in his new role. Adeishvili, a member the Georgian Dream coalition, was defeated by Saakashvili’s United National Movement in 2012’s parliamentary elections. Tea Tsulukiani succeeded him. Adeishvili’s tenure at the Ministry of Justice was associated with significant reductions in corruption and an improved efficiency of civil- and property registration services. These services were also transformed into a new concept of Public Service Hall.

Adeishvili was born at Mtisdziri, Qvareli district in then-Soviet Georgia. In 1994, he graduated from Tbilisi State University’s Faculty of Law. He continued his education at the Institute of State and Law in Tbilisi and the University of Groningen, Netherlands. From 1996 to 1999, he was the Parliament of Georgia’s leading expert on constitutional law. After leaving the Parliament of Georgia, he worked as a specialist in constitutional law for the NGO sector (such the Georgian Young Lawyers Association and the Liberty Institute). He briefly practiced law before becoming a Member of the Parliament under President Eduard Shevardnadze’s Union of Citizens of Georgia party ticket in November 1999.

Adeishvili joined Saakashvili’s New National Movement at the end 2001 as the CUG was on the verge of collapse and became a member its parliamentary affiliate, The Faction for Democratic Reforms. They were opposed to Shevardnadze’s administration.
