Zoubin Ghahramani is one of the most popular and richest British engineer who was born on February 8, 1970 in Iran. Zoubin Ghahramani, FRS (Persian pronunciation: zwbyn qhrmny – born 8 February 1970), is a British Iranian researcher and Professor of Information Engineering at Cambridge. He has joint appointments at University College London as well as the Alan Turing Institute. Since 2009, he has been a Fellow at St John’s College in Cambridge. From 2003 to 2012, he was an Associate Research Professor at Carnegie Mellon University School of Computer Science. He is the Chief Scientist of Uber as well as the Deputy Director of the Leverhulme Centre for the Future of Intelligence.

In 2014, he co-founded Geometric Intelligence with Doug Bemis and Ken Stanley. He transferred to Uber’s A.I. department after the startup was acquired by Uber. In 2016, he joined Labs. He was appointed Chief Scientist in 2016 just four months after Gary Marcus’s death.

Ghahramani studied at the American School of Madrid, Spain, and the University of Pennsylvania. He was awarded a double major in Cognitive Science and Computer Science in 1990. Under the supervision of Tomaso Poggio and Michael I. Jordan, Ghahramani received his PhD at the Department of Brain and Cognitive Sciences of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Ghahramani, who completed his PhD in mathematics, moved to Toronto in 1995 to be an ITRC Postdoctoral Fellow at the Artificial Intelligence Lab. He worked with Geoffrey Hinton. He was a member the faculty of the Gatsby Computational Neuroscience Unit at University College London from 1998 to 2005.
