Zia has always been a music fan since his childhood. He was a passionate fan of metal music and collected VCPs of music videos from popular bands. Zia began music composition with a few of his friends in the early 1990s. He founded Thrashold, a thrash-metal band in 1992 and performed on stage several times. The band was short-lived. He said, “Those were the days when we practiced off-track music. It was a genre that was ahead of its time.”
Zia, Jewel and Bulbul formed the band Shironamhin in 1996. They sang at TSC, Dhaka University and at their BUET campus. Zia and her band went to the second Benson & Hedges Star Search contest, where they won critical acclaim. They released their first album Jahajee, in 2004, after being encouraged by the accolades. The group released their second album Ichchhe Ghuri in 2006. They also released the third, fourth, and fifth albums in 2009, 2010, and 2013, respectively.
