Zhelev was released from Slavia Sofia and returned to Bulgaria at the end of the 2010-11 seasons. Zhelev made his league debut on the 8th of August in a 1-0 loss to Levski Sofia. Zhelev was removed from the first team in October 2013, after Asen Bukarev was replaced as coach, and he joined VereyaStara Zagora in the third Bulgarian football division in December 2013.
