Zhao Dayu is one of the most popular and richest Chinese businessman who was born on January 17, 1961 in Guangzhou, China. Zhao Dayu (simplified Chinese, Zhao Da Yu; traditional Chinese, Zhao Da Yu; pinyin, Zhao Dayu; 17 January 1961-18 March 2015), also known by Tatsuyu Matsuki, (Song Mu Da Yu, Matsuki Tatsuyu), was an ex-international football striker, coach, and businessman from China. He was a naturalized citizen in Japan.
Zhao, age 54, died from liver cancer at Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center, Guangzhou on March 18, 2015.
Zhao immigrated to Japan in 1988 to be the coach for Mitsubishi Motors F.C. Zhao spent many years in Japan with his family and wife, and coached the Mitsubishi Motors F.C. youth team. Before returning to China in 1998, he switched his nationality from China into Japan. He also changed his name to Tatsuyu Matsuki (Song Mu Da Yu). After that, he briefly worked in senior management at Guangzhou F.C. Zhao was their head coach in 1999. However, Zhao’s focus has been on youth development since he founded a football school called Yida in Guangzhou. Ucan, a sportswear business owned by Zhao, secured a sponsorship deal for China League One club Guangdong Sunray Cave.

Zhao Dayu was educated at Guangzhou’s specialist sports schools before being taken up by Guangzhou F.C. He showed his technical talent and went on to join the senior team. The club won promotion to the top tier in 1981 when he helped to guide it to victory. Zhao Dayu’s performance for his club quickly saw him promoted to the Chinese national team. He was also a popular figure when he scored against Argentina the 1984 Nehru Cup winning goal. Zhao proved his worth in the 1984 Asian Cup, where he helped China reach the runner-up spot. He was unable to overcome persistent fibula and tibia fractures in his left leg, which turned out to be his highlight in his career.
He was a professional footballer who played for Guangzhou F.C. throughout his career. His nickname was “Dwarf Tiger” due to his short stature. However, he was selected for the Chinese national team and took part in the 1984 Asian Cup. Due to injury, he had to retire in 1986 and moved to Japan to be the coach at Mitsubishi Motors F.C. In 1988, he was a member of the youth team. Zhao was briefly in senior management at Guangzhou F.C. Zhao began his career in senior management at Guangzhou F.C. before focusing on youth football development. He then started his own Yida football school, while outside of football, he went into sportswear manufacturing with Ucan.
